Well, I'm a Baha'i, so I don't necessarily go to "church", but I do go to religious gatherings. Every nineteen days we have what is called "feast". This marks the new Baha'i month and we go for a devotional, readings regarding the month, and consultation. I go because I want to. My mother doesn't make me or anything, in fact, when she's feeling lethargic, I encourage her to go. Besides Feast, there are occaisional devotionals and weekly Ruhi classes. My mom and I go to a book 3 Ruhi class on Sunday morning, which is basically a book that you study in order to understand the importance of teaching properly.
Unlike many people, I love that my religion plays a large role in my life. I believe that it's important to practice what you believe in, whatever it may be. To be honest, if it was really early in the morning, I would go much less because I enjoy my sleep. I think that's a main reason that some people don't go to religious events, because the time is too inconvinient for them.

Veteran's Day
Veteran's Day is a time to appreciate and acknowledge all those who have ever risked their lives for our country. Although we should contemplate this everyday, it is a special day to really reflect on this thought and appreiate them all. There are thousands of troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other nations right now, so we must remember to ponder upon the dangerers they are facing aswell. For those who have lost their lives in war, it is a time to pay respect to their families and understand all that they must have went through. It's a day to remember all of those who continue to lose their lives for our freedom.
My brother-in-law is currently in Afghanistan. He was deployed in September, and luckily, he gets to come home in January for 2 weeks, but after that he leaves for another 6 months. He has a very life-threatening job that requires him to go searching for IED's. We all pray for him everyday while we try to get my sister to stop worrying. We all praise him for his courage, we just pray that he comes home safely.

If I could live anywhere...
If I could live anywhere in the world it would definitely be in west Los Angeles. I have lived in El Paso my whole life, and I definitely want a bit of change. I think California is beautiful, with the exception of its pollution. The weather is great, there's so much to do, and there is a gorgeous ocean a few minutes away. There are so many more opportunities because of all of the urbanization there.
Screenwriting is my passion, and if I want to pursue a career in that, then it's critical that I move to California. Los Angeles is practically the film capital of the world, so I figure I should try and move there. I personally cannot wait until High School is over so I can have to opportunity to move. Although it may be more expensive to live in Los Angeles than El Paso, I think it would definitely pay off in the long run.

Occupy Wall Street
I think that protesting is always an act that should be appreciated and should be taken advantage of.
But I think that at times, protesting can go too far. When one protests, it is important that they have a clear view of what they hope to achieve. I think that all of these protesters have every right to broadcast their opinions, as long as they don't take it over the edge. If they are persistent, they have the capability to accomplish something. They have been protesting for months, which is both good and bad for a few reasons.
I believe that it is beneficial that they recieved so much attention for their concerns, because lack of media is a problem that many protests come into contact with. I think sometimes it can be harmful for a person to be dedicated so much to one cause if it starts to affect the person's daily life. For instance, if one of the moms out there protesting who is part of the 99% spends all of her time protesting, then how is she supposed to actually find a job? I just think it's important for all of these protesters to understand what they're getting themselves into.

If I were rich...
If I were a trillionaire, I would give a very nice portion of my wealth to my family and closest friends. I would buy a large house in a secluded area and have a Starbucks, Urban Outfitters, a 24-hour Panda Express and Chic-Fil-a opened. That way, I would have all of my necessities very close by me. I would donate a lot of money to the Adrenal Cancer Research funds and other non-profit organizations. I would try my best to support some of my favorite bands that don't have the opportunity to go on tour due to the lack of financial assistance.
I would donate to my religious organization as much as possible. I would make the impossible possible. I would strive to improve the education system as much as I could. I would open organizations to help teens achieve their dreams, maybe even start a new scholarship fund. Hopefully, I would be married, possibly even with a family, so I would try to give them all of their needs. I would throw large, elegant parties twice a month at my house just because I could. I would give an abundance of things for free.

Christopher Columbus...The Conspiracy.
The name Christopher Columbus is a name that has been engraved into our minds. He discovered the New World, right? False. The person that we've been dictated about never truly existed. Christopher Columbus was a generic name that was invented to cease suspicion. Spain had constructed super advanced robots that took brilliant minds and years to build. They had to keep it on the down low, so they hired one of their servants to dress as "Christopher Columbus", though his name was really Jerry. The royal family of Spain even sent Jerry out to sea on this "extravagant Voyage", when in truth, he was gone for a day and later returned.
Meanwhile, these robots landed in the New World within minutes. They planted seeds in the earth containing the secrets to civilization. By the time "Christopher Columbus discovered the New World", Spain already had every piece of information having to do with this new land. The plan was slowly coming together. The Queen rubbed her hands together in triumph. Everything had gone smoothly, Christopher Columbus received all of the glory, and his name has forever been imprinted in history books. The robots still exist today...we're just a part of the conspiracy.

The scariest thing that ever happened to me. :O
One of the many scary events that I have encountered in my short life thus far has been when a disguised person came to scare a group of my friends at someone's birthday party. It was in 5th grade and we were having so much fun. It was February, so it happened to be rather chilly and a bit windy. The sun had set and we were having a great time jumping in the jumping balloon and sharing our most fond memories. All of a sudden, we heard growls and a dark, huge figure came running at us. We all stopped and started screaming. We ran inside the house, but the hooded figure followed us, running with a purpose.
We were absolutely terrified. Here were 10 5th grade girls being chased by this devil-looking monster. Most of us hid in one of the bathrooms, screaming and crying. After we heard some apologizing and knockings at the door we decided to be brave enough to step outside of the door. It turned out to be my friend's uncle. He thought it would be amusing to scare us all. A few weeks later, we all laughed about it. Secretly, I know we probably all are still a bit shaken up about it.

Higher Education...who should pay?
The government provides children to be educated from K-12th grade. Personally, I don't think they should be responsible for anything beyond that. As is, students take advantage of the education they are receiving and don't appreciate it as much as students in countries where they have to earn there way to get educated do. Some high-schoolers especially don't fully embrace this opportunity and try to get away from it as fast as possible. Although a great percentage more of young adults would choose to go to college if it were paid for, some of them would just be forced by parents, pressured into it, or just go because they had nothing better to do. Even though I don't believe that the government should pay for higher education, I definitely think that they should provide more scholarships. If a person can't afford to go to college, they can still strive for excellence in their high school, and maybe even get their whole college paid for.
If college were paid for, it wouldn't be as selective or exclusive as it is. It mine as well be high school. I believe that it's better to have to earn a scholarship, so you can prove that you want to be there, and even feel special because you're in college. If a student isn't going to take advantage of the education he/she has already been given, then I don't see the need to pay for their college as well.

CHS Changes
Multiple additions to the school policy have been inputted. One of our new requirements us to wear our school IDs, some may argue that this is a ridiculous demand, but I think that it could definitely be worse. The administration could easily be taking more extreme measures, this is just a safety precaution they are taking. Loretto has had to wear their IDs for quite some time now, and its not a big deal. By wearing our IDs we are less likely to lose them or use the excuse of forgetting your ID number. There are some cons though, and they could reveal themselves if we were to lose them, or if someone were to just grab a stranger's ID, they would have their name, age and ID number.
As well as having us wear our IDs, we also have another class period. This affects the time we get out of school and the length of all our other classes along with our lunch and transition periods. Like every other matter, there are positives and negatives. The only positive point I can think of is having the opportunity to take an extra class and earn another credit. The negatives are that teachers have to teach an extra class, we don't have as much time with each teacher, and our lunch is ridiculously short. I personally don't mind it as much as some of my fellow classmates might, but I know it bothers many. I'm fine with whatever the administration chooses in the future, but I know to be expecting many more changes.

US Economy Recovery
Two years have passed since the US economy failed and basically disintegrated into a pathetic excuse for an economy. It has been said that the recession that the nation fell in is over, but many disagree. I don't personally keep up with the latest regarding the economy and politics, because I find that it leads to arguments and stress. I believe that it is slowly improving though, from what I've seen. I think that it's definitely going to take time to recover after what happened, but eventually we'll be able to come back from this.
With the upcoming Presidential Election, this is imperative. If civilians are satisfied with what President Obama has done to improve the economy, than they'll probably try to re-elect him. If another candidate seems more promising, then maybe they'll go with them. Their plans and strategies for improving the economy are going to play a major factor, and its going to be one of the most important to reign in votes. I wouldn't necessarily consider it to be what I'm looking for, but then again, my opinion isn't valued at the same as someone 3 years older than me. How I see it, there's not too much we can do anyways, the nation as a whole has bigger fish to fry, and I suppose we'll just have to see what happens.

A little bit of myself...
Well, my name is Carys and I'm a Sophomore at CHS. I am the middle child, I have one older sister, 22, and a younger one, 2. I was born in El Paso and have remained here my whole life, but i plan on changing that in 2 years though. I've been playing the cello for 10 years, I didn't have much of a choice for playing an instrument, seeing as my parents are musicians in the symphony. Whenever I have free time, I try to write as much as possible. I'm not athletic in anyway possible, so I try to stay away from sports and any exercise as much as possible.I have been a Baha'i for 6 years. I strive to do as well as I can at school, even though I'm a natural procrastinator, because I understand that it will affect the rest of my life.
Although, impossible, I strive for perfection. I aspire to be a film writer, director and/or producer. When I start to write, everything else disappears and fades into the shadows. My goal is to go to Stanford and get my degree in Psychology, then later get my scripts produced. Psychology fascinates me and never gets old. Looking at the little kinks in the human brain that we all have, seeing how it affects us, and how to control it. I would be a completely different person if it wasn't for music, music is what I breathe. Anything, but mainly Indie. My favorite movie is Juno, I could easily watch it 7 times in a row, everyday, for a month (as long as I was eating Oreos and ice cream with it). Well, I believe that's a somewhat decent description of myself, so I'll leave it at that.
